Winner of BUILDING OF THE YEAR 2022: Steel profiles help achieve record low CO2-footprint

A sustainable steel roof from DS Stålprofil caps off the most climate-friendly building in Helsingør, which has been named BUILDING OF THE YEAR 2022 in the “OPEN” category.

The special-needs kindergarten Himmelhuset is one of the most sustainable buildings in Denmark. With a record low carbon footprint of just 4.7 kg/m2/year, the building easily meets the new requirement of max. 12 kg/m2/year that is set to come into effect in 2023.

The Municipality of Helsingør built the institution in partnership with CanByg, focusing from the start on establishing a sustainable building that could help the local authority achieve its aim of becoming carbon-neutral by 2045.

GreenCoat® – the most eco-friendly pre-coated steel on the market

From a wealth of options, the construction client chose a steel roof from DS Stålprofil – and the elegant solution has helped the special-needs kindergarten Himmelhuset achieve a record low carbon footprint. DS Nordic Click Seam in GreenCoat® steel is a durable metal cladding profile which, with its bio-based surface coating made of organic rapeseed oil, ensures a low climate impact.

Cradle to Cradle Certified®

DS Nordic Click Seam is Cradle to Cradle Certified® and requires minimal maintenance. The profile is resistant to extreme weather conditions, UV radiation and high humidity, and has been tested to hurricane strength at the Danish Technological Institute. An extra green credential of such steel profiles is that they DO NOT leach heavy metals or other chemicals into the surrounding area in rainy conditions.

Steel profiles mean a safe and secure roof

DS Nordic Click Seam provides the children at Himmelhuset with a secure roof over their heads and demonstrates that elegant, stylish design can go hand-in-hand with responsible construction. GreenCoat® steel cladding profiles are suitable for roofing and façade finishes alike, which makes them the prefect choice – from the perspective of sustainable responsibility – to play a key role in both new builds and renovation projects where environmental considerations take top priority.
